Volunteering in Nepal

By volunteering in Nepal you will see a sharp contrast between some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world and some of the poorest people in the world. Through our volunteer projects we help to facilitate sustainable development for disadvantaged, marginalised, and poorly educated members of society by utilizing local resources and by providing them with the education and skills they need to empower themselves to be self-sufficient. Our volunteer projects aim to reach out to all areas of society that are disadvantaged or discriminated against. They include a program with a very holistic approach to helping Tibetan refugees and other Himalayan minorities in which you can get involved by helping to improve their literacy and by helping to manage a job database set up specifically for them. You can also help to educate and take care of children of women prisoners who without the support of this project have to live in the prison with their convicted parents. This centre gives them a residential home to live in and the stable, loving environment they deserve. We also offer placements to Support to At-Risk Children where you can provide valuable assistance to either a childcare center or a school caring for children between six months and seventh grade. These children come from some of the most deprived areas of Kathmandu and these centres give them invaluable care and education. If you are interested in all aspects of life as a volunteer in Nepal, we can also arrange combination projects to allow you to rotate and get involved in a couple of issues that inspire you.

If you want to volunteer in Asia and you can't find what you are looking for in Nepal then please have a look at our volunteer projects in Borneo, India, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand.

About Nepal

Best known as home of the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest, Nepal also has much more to offer in the way of breathtaking scenery, rich, diverse culture and immense hospitality. Nepal is the place where the majestic Himalayas meet the steamy heat of the Indian plains. The diversity in climate in this relatively small, narrow country is vast -ranging from a sub-tropical climate in the tarai (plains) to Alpine conditions in the Himalayan regions.

High amid the towering mountains there are glacial lakes and spectacular valleys. However, because of the all the mountains, construction of roads and other infrastructures is costly and extremely difficult. For this reason, the majority of the population live in remote and inaccessible rural areas. Most Nepali have little or no access to basic social services such as primary health care, education, clean drinking water and sanitation services. Kaya projects work with communities in need and projects that are making a difference, and we need your help.

  • Himalayas

The most famous highlight in Nepal is certainly the Himalayas. There are many well-known treks here the most popular being the "Mount Everest Base Camp trek". These treks can last anything from 8-16 days depending on the departure point therefore it is essential to have a reasonably good level of fitness.

    Chitwan National Park

Home to the endangered Bengal tiger and the one-horned rhino, the Park offers the possibility of close encounters with wildlife in their natural habitat. Take an elephant safari through the lush jungle to experience a lost world of ancient trees and tangled vines.

    White Water Rafting

Trisuli is Nepal's most famous rafting river it offers great scenery, exhilarating rapids and impressive gorges. There are also easier sections for first-timers.
