Volunteer abroad in Costa Rica and work in an orphanage helping to care for babies and young children. This project works to support children who are suffering from physical or psychological abuse and give them a temporary place to live while their parent(s) undergo counselling or treatment. Should their home life not improve over the course of time, the children are moved to a permanent orphanage with the hope of future adoption. This project also works to assist children whose mothers have put them up for adoption due to drug or alcohol addiction.
The temporary homes that we work with in Costa Rica provide children not only with a haven to escape the horrors of their home life, but also works to provide them with the necessary counselling, psychological assistance and health services in a warm and loving environment.
With volunteer participation, the project is able to encourage a more humanitarian alternative for the young children who have suffered through not having a family, or having been neglected. As there are only one or two care workers to look after the children daily (often working as volunteers themselves), there is not a shortage of duties for volunteers to get involved with. Your support will provide much needed relief for overworked and incredibly underpaid staff.
