Volunteer in Swaziland to help to build family homes for needy families using local building materials and techniques. Work as a volunteer with local builders in one of Africa's last remaining Monarchies where HIV and AIDS is decimating rural communities, leaving many orphaned children with inadequate shelters.
The Building Project aims to assist these vulnerable children through building basic shelters, gardens, water systems and other physical structures needed at households and care centres. At the same time you will be transferring skills, providing basic accommodation and will be helping to give communities encouragement and motivation to improve the quality of life. The project uses locally sourced building materials where possible and local methods. We construct mud bricks using a locally made compressor and use other local materials wherever possible. This project caters to volunteers wanting to make a difference but also to groups who want to be involved in larger scale building projects.
Project Location
The project is located in the Ezulwini valley of central Swaziland. This is the cultural heart of Swaziland and is where most of the tourist activities are based and is also where the Royal Palace, houses of parliament, national sports stadium and national museum are located within a scenic semi-rural setting. The capital town Mbabane is a 15 minute drive away. The Lobamba, Ezulwini and Mahlanya communities are scattered within a few kilometers of this area.
