Teaching and Community Assistance in Victoria Falls

  • The Project

Volunteer in Zimbabwe and work on a project that brings together a number of small community initiatives in the town of Victoria Falls. Primarily the project centres round a wonderful orphanage which was founded in 2007 by a local woman who wanted to make a real difference to a country which has been through numerous bouts of turmoil over the past few decades. The orphanage looks after a range of children, from babies through to 16 year olds and focuses on providing support and care for children from all sorts of backgrounds including those who require additional economic and psychosocial support due to homelessness, physical disabilities, sexual abuse, poverty and parent mortality. Alongside this, you will be volunteering in a local primary school which is run by an incredibly dedicated set of staff members who work tirelessly to provide the best support that they can for the local children with limited resources and funding.

As part of your experience whilst at the project you will have a chance to learn more about the broader work that is being carried out in the region including visits to the African Lion Rehabilitation & Release Program where you will have the opportunity to walk with lions as they undertake their pre-release training.

  • Why the project needs you

Following the political upheaval of the past decade, the people of Zimbabwe are beginning to look to building a better future. Though the country is stabilising, there is no money to support schools, orphanages and community initiatives and at this time there is a desperate need for volunteer help. With many children orphaned, abused and neglected following the conflicts, the children of Zimbabwe need all the support and help that we can provide, and this project brings together some of the most needy areas in the region that need your support.

    Project Location

The project is located in Victoria Falls town; a stone’s throw away from the magnificent thundering waters of the Falls themselves. Victoria Falls is a bustling tourist town with a host of craft shops, bars and restaurants. The accommodation is a quiet and peaceful property for you to make your home during your stay with us. It is fully furnished with a large lounge and dining room, satellite TV, braai area and swimming pool to cool down in.
