By volunteering in India, you can provide much needed help and support to underfunded and understaffed primary schools, day nurseries, orphanages and disabled children’s schools, in an effort to improve educational levels for the children of Udaipur. This project is working promote the benefits of education to communities who, until recently, had no access to formal education. Alongside our children’s teaching initiative, this project also works to educate parents in order for them to gain additional, yet basic skills. This work all takes place in an environment which is constantly battling against gender bias, female infanticide, child labour and child marriage. As a volunteer your time will be spent working to promote alternative ideals as well as teaching students basic skills.
Children are very often left to fend for themselves or to look after younger siblings while their parents work gruelling days from sunrise to sunset. Most families don’t have access to running water or electricity and, until recently, children had no direct access to a decent level of education. New government initiatives are providing education, but staff numbers are so desperately low that classes are often left unattended with children trying to teach themselves therefore volunteer assistance is greatly needed to provide essential assistance. Furthermore, this project is as much about educating the community as to the benefits of education as the children here are, often, the first generation to receive schooling.
Project Location
Our projects are based in and around the City of Udaipur, which is located in the state of Rajasthan in Northern India. The city of Udaipur is a lovely land set around azure water lakes hemmed in by the lush hills of the Aravails. A vision in white drenched in romance and beauty, Udaipur is a fascinating blend of sights sounds and experience – an inspiration for the imagination of poets, painters and writers.
Known to locals as the “City of Lakes”, Udaipur has recently been dubbed the “Venice of the East” and is now considered one of the most romantic destinations in India. The exquisite lake palaces shimmer like jewels on Lake Pichhola, and are overwhelming in splendour. There are several palaces of interest around Udaipur, and these include the majestic Chittaurgarh, the mountain fortress of
Kumbhalgarh, the beautiful Jain temples of Ranakpur, Eklingli and Nathdwara and the cool retreat of Mt Abu, the likes of which will make sure that your stay in Udaipur is a memorable one.
