The NGO is a social enterprise dedicated to urban greening, reforestation, and eco- education, based in South Africa. Through planting trees, the organisation aims to uplift communities, fight deforestation, spread environmental awareness, and inspire a green movement by involving people from around the world, with the aim of making greening enjoyable, rather than a responsibility. Having planted over 18,000 trees in over 200 beneficiary schools, since 2010 as well as implementing dynamic and interesting activities for children and community members this project has made an amazing start.
Already an award winning NGO, the project has developed a strong online presence through its various social media channels. It also runs planting days. The organisation is always looking for new promotional materials and methods for their online media and as a graphic design intern you will have a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the process, from conception to design and delivery.

During your internship you will work alongside specialists in the field who are passionate about the project’s goals. The Graphic Design Intern, will provide a young, fresh, and fun look, so it is important that you resonate with this style, and are able to contribute to developing it. Activities in which interns are involved include:
- Designing posters, banners and flyers for print
- Designing business cards
- Designing templates for brochures and other online documents
- Writing design briefs
- Participating in planting days and other fun green events that are organised by the project
All activities are variable and dependant on project needs and the technical level of interns at the time of the placement but are sure to give you an interesting insight into the workings of marketing and design based activities in an African NGO. During your placement you will be supported by an intern coordinator and a member of the project. Weekly reviews will be held to answer any questions and to review your progress.

Interns should have some experience in marketing, and a knowledge of social media platforms for this placement, as this placement is an opportunity for you to develop and put into practice your skills and knowledge. A fresh approach is sought and therefore fresh eyes are needed. Photoshop, illustrator and Mac experience in graphic design is a requirement. Strong conceptualising, branding and creative skills are sought. It is recommended that interns bring their own laptop.
There is a selection process for this internship. You will be asked to submit a full CV/resume upon application plus any documentation that will support your application. This must include a letter of motivation and a link to a portfolio of your work. You will be asked to attend a telephone interview to discuss your experience and assess your suitability for this internship.

Interns are based in the fascinating Cape Town, located on the tip of South Africa. You will have access to all that it has to offer which ranges from skydiving to beaches and museums. For those of you who like to experience the thrills of life why not join a cage diving with sharks experience, or go on a safari and find some of Africa’s Big 5. More laid back activities include wine tasting, sunbathing on the beach and heading to the Cape of Good Hope and its beautiful nature reserve. Whatever your interests, Cape Town will have something new and interesting for you to experience during your internship in South Africa.

- Duration: 8 – 12 weeks
- Cost: £1716 / $3003 for 8 weeks
£118 / $206 per each extra week
- Requirements: age 20+

- Working hours: 3 – 5 days per week, for a minimum of 8 weeks. You will be asked to help out during weekend activities.
- Project availability: All year round, except 2 weeks at Christmas
