Project Summary

What is the Occupational Therapy Internship in Morocco all about?

During your placement, you will be placed at a local hospital where you will shadow and assist healthcare staff with various tasks. You will be working with children of varying ages, many of whom are suffering from different types of blood cancer and require everyday assistance to perform physical tasks such as changing, bathing or walking. You will learn more about the techniques used to make these tasks more manageable, the type of equipment used, and gain valuable, hands-on experience.

Why choose this Occupational Therapy Internship programme in Morocco?

This internship is suitable for pre-medical students interested in pursuing a career in occupational therapy. You will be exposed to what it is like for the local therapists to operate in a developing country. This field is an emerging job market in the country. You will also learn about Moroccan’s culture and develop your professional network as well as your circle of friends.

Role of the Healthcare Intern

During your internship at the centre, you will be able to assist the local professionals in their activities as they help patients perform daily practical tasks. You will always be with a competent professional and will, therefore, have the opportunity to learn about the field and get first-hand experience in what it’s like to be an occupational therapist in a developing country.

What skills do I need to be an Occupational Therapist Intern?

This project is suitable for pre-med and medical students. Although no specific experience is required, it is preferable that you have previously volunteered or worked in a healthcare setting. Occupational therapy students are particularly welcomed. All interns should be positive, enthusiastic, patient and respectful.

The Location

Where will I work in Morocco?

About the Location

Your placement will be located in the administrative capital of Morocco. Rabat blends modern and traditional architectures in a very amortised way. You will have the chance to discover Moroccan’s specialty foods, traditions, and artifacts including finest leathers, spices, and customized wooden doors with its Arabo-Muslim influences.

Accommodation

Your accommodation will be in a renovated Riad in the middle of Rabat’s medina. You will share a room with at least one other volunteer. The Riad is conveniently located nearby the famous Rue des Consuls for its shopping. You will share your breakfast and dinner with fellow interns and volunteers prepared by the local cook. You will also be able to enjoy westernised bathroom and toilets and be a simple but comfortable accommodation.

If you desire to be immersed a little more in Moroccan culture and wish to stay with a local host family, please speak to your placement advisor as this could be an option as well.

What to do in your spare time

Rabat offers many hidden gems to explore during your time off. You will have the time discover its maze-like streets, beautiful hidden mosaic fountains. markets and food streets. Rabat also offers many points of interest like the Kasbah des Oudaias palace, Hassan Tower.
