What is the Occupational Therapy Internship in Morocco all about?
During your placement, you will be placed at a local hospital where you will shadow and assist healthcare staff with various tasks. You will be working with children of varying ages, many of whom are suffering from different types of blood cancer and require everyday assistance to perform physical tasks such as changing, bathing or walking. You will learn more about the techniques used to make these tasks more manageable, the type of equipment used, and gain valuable, hands-on experience.

What skills do I need to be an Occupational Therapist Intern?

Occupational therapy students are particularly welcomed. All interns should be positive, enthusiastic, patient and respectful.

Where will I work in Morocco?
About the Location
Your placement will be located in the administrative capital of Morocco. Rabat blends modern and traditional architectures in a very amortised way. You will have the chance to discover Moroccan’s specialty foods, traditions, and artifacts including finest leathers, spices, and customized wooden doors with its Arabo-Muslim influences.
Accommodation
Your accommodation will be in a renovated Riad in the middle of Rabat’s medina. You will share a room with at least one other volunteer. The Riad is conveniently located nearby the famous Rue des Consuls for its shopping. You will share your breakfast and dinner with fellow interns and volunteers prepared by the local cook. You will also be able to enjoy westernised bathroom and toilets and be a simple but comfortable accommodation.
If you desire to be immersed a little more in Moroccan culture and wish to stay with a local host family, please speak to your placement advisor as this could be an option as well.
What to do in your spare time
Rabat offers many hidden gems to explore during your time off. You will have the time discover its maze-like streets, beautiful hidden mosaic fountains. markets and food streets. Rabat also offers many points of interest like the Kasbah des Oudaias palace, Hassan Tower. We recommend that you take in the beauty of the old architecture and the craftsmanship that has gone into it. Rabat is also a great location to plan day trips or weekend trips to the Sahara Desert, Casablanca, Fes, Marrakech and many other local spots.
Details & Costs
- Duration: 4+ weeks
- Cost: £1825 / $2848 for 4 weeks
£277 / $432 for each additional weeks - Requirements: Age 18+, Positive, enthusiast and psychologically ready to work with children with disabilities
- Location: Rabat, Morocco
- Working hours: Monday - Friday, depends on shifts
- Project availability: All year round, except during Ramadan
- Arrival day: Saturday
What is included
- Accommodation: Shared bedroom in volunteer house. Option for a host family if you speak to your placement advisor.
- Food: 2 meals a day Mondays through Fridays
- Scheduled airport pick up and drop off from Rabat-Salé airport
- Training: Pre-departure information pack, learning reflection guide, on-site orientation, cultural tour and project induction provided
- Support: 24-hour support from on-site coordinator
- Assistance with planning your weekend excursions from local staff
- Certificate on completion of your internship placement diary and presentation to the local team

- Daily transfers to and from the project – walkable or taxi (~ 10 Moroccan dirhams each way)
- 1 meal a day (lunch) and weekend meals
- Police/Government Background Check; US and UK citizens will be processed through Kaya (admin fee applies) all other nationalities must provide local police check.
- Any costs for COVID-19 PCR tests required pre-departure and in-country
