A Study Abroad in Vietnam is a perfect opportunity to earn credits towards your diploma while broadening your horizons and enjoy an experience of a lifetime while living and studying abroad. You will gain a different expertise in your field of study by taking classes in a different country than your own. Yet, you will be able to transfer your credits when you return so that it counts towards your degree.
During this Study Abroad, you will spend 5 months studying in a prestigious Vietnamese university (which university depends on your area of study). Your classes will be taught in English but your peers will be both local Vietnamese students as well as foreign students.
Fall semester starts early August with a deadline of mid-March
Spring semester starts mid-January with a deadline of end-October
Why choose this Study Abroad and Service?
You will be living in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi depending on your field of studies. Indeed, depending on your major, you will attend Hanoi University, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Foreign Trade University in Hanoi, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh University, Ho Chi Minh University of Technology or FPT University.
Once you complete your semester, you will receive an official transcript and certificate of completion from your host university to transfer your credits back home. Students are advised to consult with their home institutions in advance to ensure the credits will be added to your home transcripts.
You will be assigned a “local buddy” to help you get acquainted with your new surroundings. And you will have the opportunity to participate on a weekly or biweekly volunteering experience within your local community to help make a positive impact.
This is a great experience to add to your resume / CV and will make you stand out from the crowd upon graduation and as you enter your career.
Which Classes Can I take?
You can take a minimum of 3 classes up to 6 on a subject of your choice. Choose courses related to languages, Vietnamese heritage, social sciences and humanities, hospitality management and tourism, business and economics, IT, environment technology and management or environmental engineering. Options of classes will be given to you based on your major and which university you will need to attend accordingly.

The requirements to join the Semester Study Abroad and Service in Vietnam program are:

A Kaya placement advisor will contact you upon submitting your Kaya online application to go over the rest of the application process and provide you with the necessary paperwork. It is recommended you start the application process 3 months prior to departure.
About the Location
Depending on your field of study, you will be based in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Both cities are popular Vietnamese locations and you will be amazed by the wealth of cultural landmarks, attractions and entertaining venues both cities offer. Ho Chi Minh is known to be a diverse, young and energetic city. It is now one of the fastest growing emerging economies city in the region. Hanoi is a very traditional and culturally rich city that has been attracted many expats over the years. Both have very different vibes but both offer wide areas of activities to undertake during your spare time.
You will have the choice between staying with a local Vietnamese family and learning about the local traditions and culture first hand. Or you may decide to stay in a shared apartment at an additional cost throughout your stay.
What to do in your spare time
You will certainly not run out of things to do in either city.
Ho Chi Minh City offers a variety fascinating activities around the war. If you are a history buff, you will certainly learn a lot in Ho Chi Minh about the Vietnam War by visiting the War Remnant Museum, the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Reunification Palace. If you are more interested in learning about Buddhism and Vietnamese culture, you can visit many of the pagodas including Jade Emperor Pagoda, or Giac Lam Pagoda. or you may want to head to a temple like Cao Dai Temple or Mariamman Hindu Temple. No matter where your interests lay, make sure you check out Nha Hang Ngon for the street food vendors, as well as the Binh Tay Market or Ben Thanh Market. Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post office are also worth a visit as it showcased the French colonialism of the City.
Hanoi has been more preserved and features more of the Vietnamese history and culture. You will be able to enjoy temples, ancient citadel and green parks all in one City. The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, the Perfume Pagoda and the Temple of Literature are all examples of typical Vietnamese heritage and are worth the visit. Don’t forget to check out the wild markets and typical street vendor foods are the Dong Xuan Market, Hanoi Old Quarter. If you want some peace and quiet in a natural environment, you can enjoy an afternoon strolling around Hoan Kiem Lake (Turtle Lake), or take a drive 2 hours out of the city and check out Ba Vi National Parc.
