TANZANIA

Volunteer in Tanzania and enjoy its contrasting, colourful landscapes. See the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, wander along stunning white sandy beaches, and immerse yourself in the tribal culture of tranquil coastal villages.

Intern & Volunteer in Tanzania

Although rich in beauty and culture, unfortunately the majority of people in Tanzania are living in poverty. Advances in the provision of and access to health care, education, and opportunities for girls in particular, are needed. Volunteering in Tanzania through our impactful projects will offer vital support for ongoing initiatives which tackle these pressing issues.

Kaya’s volunteer projects are based on the paradisiacal archipelago of Zanzibar or near the fantastic Mount Kilimanjaro. If you want to contribute to community projects, such as teaching and community work, we offer a high-impact program which is located right on the shore! If you are interested in assisting in Tanzania’s marine conservation and working with dolphins, we offer a great marine conservation project in Zanzibar. Or, if you would rather stay on the mainland, you can join our volunteer teaching placement and provide valuable language skills to empower communities in Moshi.

If you’re volunteering in Moshi, you can go on the popular Kahawa Shamba coffee tour on the weekend to fully immerse in Tanzanian culture, or step back in time at the Kolo-Kondoa Rock art sites, a series of ancient caves carved into the hillside. If you are working on the island of Zanzibar, you can go on a Kawa cycle tour to the island’s interesting spice plantations on the weekend. Tanzanian cuisine is an interesting fusion of Indian, Middle Eastern and local African ingredients, but definitely make sure you try Ugali, their authentic maize-based national dish.

Join Kaya on one of our volunteer projects or internships in Tanzania. Whichever project you choose, you will be able to do hands-on work and see the larger impact you are helping make possible.
