What is the Sports Teaching in Rural Cambodia all about?
If you are passionate about sports and would like to teach the local kids about mainly football, then this project is for you! You will be teaching the children from the local football team mainly football (soccer). Teaching happens in a provincial stadium located 15 minutes away from your accommodation by bike.
The coaching sessions should be both technical and practical. Your local coordinator will share ideas, but you are expected to bring a go-to attitude and lead your group with drills, ideas and fitness exercises.
Keep in mind that equipment may be limited and not exactly what you may be used to, so you may need to be resourceful and creative!
The aim of the project is to broaden the social and athletic skills that these children have through participation in sports activities. These new skills and lessons will foster the development of important life skills.
Why choose this Sports Teaching project in Rural Cambodia?
This is a great project for anyone passionate about sports and more specifically football. You will be living in a rural village of Cambodia while teaching the local kids on how to work as a group to win a game and respect each other while doing so. During this program, you will coach children between the ages of 10-13 years in order to help them develop their social, physical and mental skills. The children will learn valuable team building skills and a sense of discipline, that will assist them greatly throughout their lives.
Role of the volunteer teacher
You will be teaching sports activities to help the children improve their level of fitness and develop essential life skills learning to work as a team. You can expect to work around 6 hours per day coaching the students two 3-hour sessions, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. By managing the children, you will develop some leadership, teamwork and creativity skills as you will be required to come up with your own coaching sessions including drills for the sports group to practice.
What skills do I need to do volunteer teaching on this Sports project?
This project requires some knowledge, experience or qualification in football or sports coaching. You need to be able to share your love for football so knowledge of football and team management skills will be needed! Basic level of English will also be necessary to communicate with the local children.

Where will I work in Cambodia?
About the Location
You will be staying in Samraong, located in northwestern Cambodia, close to the border with Thailand. The accommodation is in a small, rural village located on the outskirts of town. This remote Cambodia location will emerge you in Cambodia’s rural lifestyle. You will learn about the customs, the culture while meeting people from all over the world that comes to volunteer on different initiatives in this specific part of the country. Because Siem Reap is only located two hours away, you will be able to explore some of Cambodia’s major highlights.
Accommodation
The accommodation is simple but comfortable with shared communal areas where you will be able to relax, eat and meet other volunteers. You will be sharing your room with 2-3 other volunteers. You will also have access to the free Wifi to catch up with your friends and family from home.
What to do in your Spare Time
In Samraong, you will be able to use bikes available for you to borrow and go explore your local surroundings. Your accommodation is located nearby a local park where you can go relax or play volleyball with the locals during your free time.
If you want to venture out to Siem Reap, it is only two hours away and many volunteers opt to head there during the weekends to explore.
Everything in Siem Reap is accessible. Angkor Wat and its adjacent temples are close enough for you to visit the landmark. You may also want to check out Phare Circus, the number one non-temple attraction in Siem Reap. The circus showcases juggling, acrobatics, aerial arts, theatre and dance performances!

- Cost: £893 / $1394 for 2 weeks
£267 / $416 for each additional weeks. - Requirements: Age 18+

- Working hours: Monday - Friday, 6 hours total split between 8 am and 5 pm
