Volunteer with Kaya on a women’s empowerment project and support vulnerable women and girls in homes for young mothers and former prostitutes, on livelihood initiatives and in education projects.
Women’s Empowerment Internships & Volunteer Projects
Each women’s empowerment project has its own goals reflecting the needs of the women and young girls but activities you may get involved with include running skills based or health workshops, counselling, childcare, agriculture initiatives teaching English. You will find the experience extremely rewarding as you build trust and spend time sharing your own experiences with the women and girls, and listening to their own stories.
Thousands of women and girls around the world are in vulnerable situations either because of exploitation, abuse or unfavourable treatment within their cultures. Often these women and girls have children so not only are they in need to support, their families are too. Projects and centres have been set up to offer them a safe place to stay, to rebuild their self esteem and to help them to develop better futures for themselves. By volunteering on a women’s empowerment project with Kaya you can play a small part in giving them the skills and confidence to change their own lives as well as those of their families.
At Kaya we have several women’s empowerment projects and these include helping abused women in the Philippines, empowerment through supporting cooperatives in Costa Rica and supporting women excluded from mainstream society in Nepal with agriculture and education.
You don’t need specific experience working with women’s groups but if you have training, teaching, counselling or business skills they will be most useful. A willingness to help where needed, a genuine interest in supporting women in need and being sensitive are some of the attributes you should have as a women’s empowerment volunteer.

TELEPHONE INTERVIEW
Once we’ve received your application, we’ll review your details and be in touch to arrange your informal telephone interview with your Kaya Placement Advisor.
CONFIRMATION
Following your interview, we will provide you a placement offer. Once you are ready to confirm your placement and dates, you can pay your confirmation fee to book and secure your space.
GET PREPARED
When you have confirmed your project dates we'll send you your Welcome Pack and lots of other helpful information to assist you with preparing for your placement.
