Public Health Volunteer Projects
Each public health project works closely with large communities where health education, medical support clinics, and home based care are in short supply. Healthcare education is an important aspect of public health and you will help to arrange and deliver sessions on topics such as HIV transmission, hygiene, pre and post natal care, and sexual and reproductive health. Other activities you will help with include organising patients, attending support groups, helping with community nutrition initiatives and supporting children and the elderly. You really will enjoy this varied placement.
Public health projects are important to ensure that communities are kept informed about basic healthcare topics such as hygiene and communicable diseases, as well as supporting community based initiatives. Clinics are often over stretched and community healthcare drives can help raise awareness about common illnesses and diseases that are endemic. Education about HIV and TB transmission, protecting young children against malaria and sexual and reproductive health can have a remarkable impact on a community, and you can help.
At Kaya we have several public health placements and these include Rural Public Health Volunteering in Ecuador, Public Health Volunteering in Moshi, Tanzania and Community Health and Home Based Care in South Africa.
Our public health placements are open to all volunteers. All that we ask is that you have a positive attitude, are hard working and are comfortable communicating with the young and old. If you are studying public health, nursing or community development this placement may compliment your classroom learning. Experienced health and community workers are more than welcome!
Join us on a public health volunteering placement and help raise awareness of important healthcare issues making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable community members.
