Project Summary

What is the Medical Internship in Jamaica all about?

The Medical Internship in Jamaica will help you get skills you need to launch your medical career!

Jamaica has been a struggling country due to low growth and high public debt. Inequality in Jamaica is lower than in most countries in the Caribbeans but poverty is still significant. The Jamaican healthcare system continues to be overextended, and the population health is changing due to a variety of risks attributed to urbanization, industrialization and changes in lifestyles. As a result, there is a greater demand for its free healthcare as some of the common ailments include malnutrition, communicable diseases, chronic illnesses and alike.

The experience you will gain on your Medical Internship in Jamaica will give you a strong foundation for your career as you will have to work with very limited resources, insufficient staff and a large number of patients.

Why choose this Medical Internship placement in Jamaica?

  • Get matched to the perfect role whether you are a pre-med student or a doctor in training.
  • Learn from local doctors and other skilled healthcare practitioners while dealing with ailments you wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to.
  • Enjoy the Jamaican way of life and discover its culture when not on your internship.

Role of the Medical Intern

The role of the Medical Intern in Jamaica will vary depending on your skill set. Pre-med students can work in local clinics doing basic tasks such as administration, general health checks, taking patients history, participate in awareness health sessions on nutrition, personal hygiene or prevention of illnesses, or attend medical lectures in some cases.

Doctors in training may be asked to assist the medical doctor on duty depending on your level of experience. Whether you will be capable of doing some hands-on work according to your skills, or shadowing the local professionals, you will gain some valuable exposure.

The Medical Internship in Jamaica is a great opportunity to be exposed to various health issues you wouldn’t see back home.

What skills do I need to be a Medical Intern?

This placement is suitable for pre–med students, and doctors in training. Trained doctors are also welcome to contribute. Depending on your qualifications and training, you would be placed in a hospital, a clinic or participate in the local community health outreach initiatives. This Medical Internship in Jamaica abroad are tailored to each person’s specific skills and needs. You will be required to attend an interview and you will be asked to submit a resume / CV alongside your application.
