- Early Childhood Development Internship in Morocco
What is the Childcare Internship in Morocco all about?
The education system in Morocco faces significant challenges. Challenges include low daily attendance, teacher absenteeism and low literacy rates. Drop out rate is very high, and only 53% of students enrolled in primary schooling continue onto secondary schools. Access to education and under-resourced schools is at the core of the challenges. There are simply not enough teachers for the number of children. Interns strengthen the capacity of teachers and contribute to supporting and caring for vulnerable children in Morocco. It improves the children’s prospects for the future giving them a more solid education. It also gives impoverished children compassion and a sense of hope. Both the interns and the locals benefit from this inter-cultural exchange. Interns engage with community NGOs, schools, day care centers, orphanages, and centers supporting autistic children.
Why choose this Childcare Volunteering project in Morocco?
This is a great project for anyone trying to discover a new culture while learning a new language and helping the local community’s children. You will be exposed to the educational system in Morocco, as well as contributing by assisting the local teachers and being a role model for the children. You will be asked to teach the children your native language as well as organize fun creative activities with them to develop their learnings in a more Westernized way. This will help develop your leadership skills, teaching skills while learning about how another culture teach their children, which is very traditional French way of children needing to be “bras croisés” (crossed arms).
Role of the Childcare Volunteer
Your responsibilities will include organizing activities to entertain and enhance the cognitive skills of children from underprivileged neighborhoods. Duties may involve providing educational support, teaching basic English, facilitating physical development through music, dance, and games, as well as fostering artistic expression through painting and drawing.
Some of the other roles and responsibilities you may have:
- Assist teachers in designing school programs and educational activities.
- Teach English to different classes and levels of students.
- Design and facilitate workshops for children.
- Collaborate with staff to support and achieve school objectives.
- Provide academic support to students and occasional childcare as needed.
- Assist in organizing and participating in summer camps during school holidays.
What skills do I need to volunteer with children?
You must be 18 or older and have the equivalent of a high school diploma. A criminal background check is also required. Some experience working with children would be preferred but is not mandatory. The participant should be responsible, enthusiastic, have effective time management, strong planning abilities and have a compassionate attitude to succeed in this placement. Some understanding of French Arabic will also make this placement easier and more rewarding. These skills not only support program objectives but also enhance your CV with practical education experience and intercultural competence.
