EDUCATION, SOCIAL WORK & PSYCHOLOGY

As an intern in Education, Social work, Psychology and the Behavioral Sciences, you can gain experiences working alongside professionals to support adults and children within our communities on impactful initiatives.

Education, Social Work & Psychology Internships

This field covers a wide area of placements that work alongside community members – old and young – to provide support, education, guidance, mentoring and access to services. For students interested in human behaviour and development, social systems, family and care for those in need, we have a wide range of organizations within which you can intern.

Whether you are training to become a teacher, a social worker, a counselor or work within the social support system, you can learn a lot about different approaches and systems adopted abroad and gain new perspectives on complex social issues.

  • We have Kaya internships for those studying in fields including:
  • Education
  • Social Work
  • Human Services
  • Sociology
  • Psychology
  • Behavioural Science
  • Anthropology

If you are studying in the field of education, there are internship opportunities in a broad range of areas; child education for pre-school, primary, elementary, and secondary education. Youth education, both within the classroom and within other social initiatives. Adult education, including literacy, language development, and skills learning. We also have special needs education placements and more.

For those interested in working in social services, we have internships within a range of social projects – both within government systems and as part of charities and NGOs focussed on specific groups.

We have placements working alongside Social Work professionals, counselors, staff, management, and administrators. There are placements within hospitals and health clinics, within social support initiatives such as young mothers’ homes, women’s shelters, and youth support groups, and even placement working alongside police and government workers as part of social support systems.

Education, Social Work & Psychology FAQs

What to expect from a social work internship abroad?

During a social work internship, you’ll work alongside professionals supporting individuals and communities through education, counseling, and social initiatives. Tasks may include mentoring youth, assisting in shelters, facilitating workshops, and helping with case support. You’ll gain insight into global approaches to social systems and build practical skills in empathy, communication, and cultural awareness.

Are psychology internships paid?

Psychology internships abroad are usually unpaid because they focus on learning and community engagement rather than employment. Kaya’s programs emphasize ethical placements where your contribution supports local professionals and community well-being. While you won’t receive a salary, some programs may include benefits such as accommodation or meals. Most importantly, you’ll gain practical experience, mentorship, and a deeper understanding of human behavior.

What are good internships for psychology majors?

Psychology majors can explore a wide variety of placements with Kaya, including educational psychology, behavioral science, and youth counseling. These internships allow you to assist with workshops, observe therapy sessions, or support social programs addressing mental health and community development.

How long is a psychology internship abroad?

Psychology internships through Kaya typically last from 2 to 12 weeks, depending on the project and your schedule. Longer placements allow for more in-depth learning, while shorter ones are ideal for summer or academic breaks.

If you’re unsure which duration is best for you, our team can help you find a program length that fits your goals and schedule. You can also request a brochure to explore different options and learn more about what each internship offers.
