As an intern, you will contribute to specific and individual support programs and specialized therapies that stimulate the development of skills.

Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability, and during your psychology and social work internship, you will contribute to the educational intervention methods which best meet the needs of the child and family.

As an intern on the psychology and social work internship in Ecuador, you will form an integral part in the diagnosis, rehabilitation and treatment that children require for their learning and development by collaborating with the community of children, their families, schools and professionals.

You will work alongside educational centers, as well as state, municipal and private institutions as you ultimately provide and promote the comprehensive health of vulnerable children and their families through a multidisciplinary approach.

Depending on your skill set and the needs of the project at the time, you may be involved in a variety of rehabilitation programs, including Language Therapy, Child Psychology, Psycho-pedagogy and Physical Therapy.  As an important member of the team, you can help improve the children’s quality of life, social inclusion, learning and development.

What skills do I need to be a Psychology and Social Work intern in Ecuador?

In order to participate in this psychology and social work internship in Ecuador, you will be asked to provide your resume and attend a short interview. Any experience with autism and language disorders is highly regarded but not essential. This placement is particularly suited to social work, psychology, physical therapy, occupational therapy and psychopedagogy students. Please arrive with empathy, humility, dedication, flexibility and patience. A B1 level of Spanish is also required to communicate effectively throughout your internship.

Travel during COVID times

The health and safety of our travelers and our local communities remain central to our plans for reopening countries and projects. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been adapting our programs and protocols to protect all those involved, and ask for everyone’s patience and collaboration as new rules are implemented in-country. For all projects, new standards of sanitation, procedures and social behaviors are in place, including new health and hygiene protocols and social distancing practices. You can read more here. Each location may be slightly different in the way they operate. We encourage you to inquire to your placement advisor to learn more about your specific project as you plan for your responsible return to travel!

While the COVID pandemic is still affecting travel, for this location, you will need to do a quarantine for the first 10 days. So choose your project length accordingly for pricing by adding in an extra week to your travel plans.
