Music & Dance Volunteer Projects
Our dance placements take two forms. The first is dance therapy, where you will follow a curriculum to encourage children and adults who have been abused to express emotions through dance. Our second is working in NGOs and community projects to teach local children and young different styles of dance, with the aim of putting on a performance. You will find either extremely rewarding.
Our music placements work within schools, NGOs and community projects to encourage children to work together and express themselves through song or through playing musical instruments. Resources are often in short supply so if you are able to make instruments, teach singing or incorporate clapping into song you will be able to really bring music alive. You can teach children how to listen to each other and how to incorporate instruments into their singing performance, and you may even be able to learn a local instrument or two!
Dance and music are popular the world over and used to celebrate, mourn and communicate. At Kaya we have incorporated dance and music projects to help vulnerable people to communicate and to improve their general feeling of well-being. Often life is very serious for many of our community members, and music and dance provide a different experience and outlet leading to joy and happiness.
Projects that are a good match for volunteers include our music, drama and dance placement in Cambodia, developing music in schools in Belize and integrating music and dance into the lives of adults with special needs in Ecuador. For those of you with an interest in the role of dance in improving communication and trust, our Dance Therapy in Belize is sure to interest you.
If you are enthusiastic about music or dance and would love to share this with others then a volunteer placement with Kaya is perfect for you! You must be self confident, happy working with groups and be a creative person. If you are a student, and have experience of dance therapy, your skills will be put to good use. Above all, you will be required to use your initiative and share your ideas, so come prepared!
Volunteer with us on one of placements and you will bring joy and happiness to those whose lives are often more challenging than your own, while sharing your love of music or dance.
