“From the very beginning they (Kaya) welcomed me onto their projects, not only with professionalism but most importantly genuine friendliness and concern, helping me through every step of the way. I believe that the way in which travelling as a volunteer triumphs over travelling as a tourist is that it gives you an opportunity to give back to country which gives you so much in the time that you’re there. My role was generally working with fellow mahouts to restore and maintain the local jungle, though aside from this I was always given the opportunity to help with the elephants, in looking after them and maintaining their particular home.”
