Volunteer at an eco-festival like no other! Fully sustainable, and with its roots in reforestation, environmentalism, and conservation – you can have a magical time in a fun but safe small festival environment – whilst fighting the corner for conservation and the environment!
Plant trees, dance like no one’s watching, live and work in a fairyland in South Africa…
Now planned for 2021, the Tree-planting Eco Festival offers you the time of your life, environmental volunteering, and all manner of fun experiences centred around environmental conservation, sustainability, and wellness.
And did we mention that it takes place in the paradise Garden Route of South Africa?
The Tree-planting Eco Festival is quite literally an action-packed event, open to everyone and all ages! Families, individuals, ecologists, old, young, whoever you are! It’s for people that want to make a difference in environmental conservation whilst meeting like-minded people from all over the world, and have an incredible time doing so.
Here’s what was achieved at last year’s festival in such a short space of time:
- 5000 indigenous trees planted
- Over 30 species of tree planted
- 420 eco-bricks made for future building projects
- Over 9000 plant-based meals served
- 3000m² of alien (non-indigenous and invasive) vegetation cleared
- 3 environmental murals painted
- 70 bags of resources saved from landfill
- 2 beach clean-ups
- 41 scholarship students from the local community participated
Where is this magical festival?
The Tree-planting Eco Festival takes place near Plettenberg Bay in the heart of the Garden Route. The area is alive with indigenous forests, surrounded by pristine beaches, and with the mountains of Tsitsikamma National Park watching over.
Set up to bring together both local and global environment enthusiasts, the Tree-planting Eco Festival provides a meaningful week of activities that help people reconnect with nature in South Africa’s stunning Garden Route.
How will you be spending your time?
Here’s what you can expect to be doing with your working hours (because don’t worry – there is plenty of down-time for full-on fun festival action):
- Reforestation tree planting
- Urban tree planting at local schools
- Eco-education workshops
- Beach clean-ups
- Mural painting
- Alien plant species clearing
And whilst you will be getting stuck in and getting your hands dirty tree-planting, there is a whole itinerary of exciting festival plans that truly take advantage of the idyllic coastal and forest wonderland:
- Campfire and jamming
- Yoga and stretching
- Quiz night
- Guided hikes
Eat seasonal, locally grown food, farmed and cooked sustainably using techniques like solar cookers and wonderbag slow-cookers.
What else can I expect from this once in a lifetime experience?
All of the lovingly prepared meals are plant-based, and rich in nutrients, vitamins, and protein to energise you for a week that you will never forget. Rustic and charming tented accommodation, and all meals are included in the ticket!
If you need a break from the busy modern world, and want to use your hands to make change and experience wellness, the Tree-planting Eco Festival will offer just that opportunity. The area suffered forest fires in 2017, and still requires a helping hand from volunteers to rebuild it. You will truly be giving back, and making a lasting change in an area affected by natural disaster.
